![]() Fresh fish of all sizes and colors are brought in daily from the Pacific Ocean. There are a number of pescaderías, or fish markets, in the Lakeside area whose selection and variety grace the tables of restaurants and households throughout the community. |
![]() The shoreline in Chapala is a favorite launching site for boats, both for fishing and for tourists. The shape and construction of these craft are characteristic of the area and are painted with vibrant colors and bear the names of wives and sweethearts of their captains. |
![]() The pier in Chapala provides shelter and docking for boats as well as a favorite rendezvous for lovers and lake-gazers. From here one can hire a boat for sightseeing or a trip to Scorpion Island, so named not because it is overrun by scorpions, but for its scorpion-like shape. |
![]() Senora Burrita is better dressed than most, but she is not an uncommon sight in the streets of Ajijic and other Lakeside villages. Burros and horses are still valid means of transportation for many natives as well as being the poor man’s pickup truck, used for carrying loads of firewood, sacks of grain, or jugs of water. The narrow, cobblestone streets were designed for these animals and their carts long before automobiles made an appearance. |
![]() Parrots, Macaws, and a veritable menagerie of colorful birds abound in central Mexico. Birdsongs unheard by most gringos welcome the rising sun from the trees outside your window. Watch the treetops for brilliant reds, yellows, greens, and blues that are the feathered performers of this avian music. If man’s idea of Paradise is characterized by such sights, then you’ve found the right combination of climate and beauty that fills the bill. |
Beautiful sunsets are not a rarity over Lake Chapala. Whether the sky is softly hazy or crystal clear, no two sunsets are alike, nor do they depend on the season. Viewed from a mountaintop or from an easy chair on your mirador, it’s the perfect time to pause and appreciate your good fortune to be in one of the world’s finest climates |
