Welcome to Lake Chapala! Click the dot for a map of the area.

Open produce markets, such as the weekly tianguis, provide a bountiful
and colorful array of fresh fruits and vegetables, nuts, fish, and
cheese. For those who prefer the more traditional grocery stores,
there are enough of those to be convenient to any neighborhood.
In addition to the various "general" stores, there are many
boutiques with uniquely designed clothes, gift shops featuring the
best of Mexican folk arts and crafts, and joyerías (hoy-a-rías),
where local artisans proudly display their hand-made jewelry.
Street vendors offer colorful baskets, blankets made by the Huichol
Indians, Mexican flags, pottery…you name it. Mouth-watering
aromas emanate from portable food booths and carts, where enterprising
locals cook delicious tacos, stews, and roasted corn on the street
or sidewalk, whichever is handy.
The Guadalajara International Airport is a mere half-hour drive away.
Add another fifteen minutes, and you're in the heart of Mexico's second
largest bustling city of Guadalajara, with enough charm, culture,
arts, and history to accommodate the most adventurous.
Many good restaurants abound in the villages and in the city. One
can choose from Mexican, Italian, Chinese, Argentine, German, French,
Greek, seafood, or just good old steak restaurants. Sandwich shops
are readily available to busy shoppers and working people alike for
a quick and economical meal.
Life down here is not hectic unless you want it to be. "Laid
back" is a term that best describes the lifestyle that many expatriates
enjoy who have come here to retire or to escape the "rat race"
of demanding jobs. The cost of living can be as economical or as lavish
as one chooses, within their means, but a lifestyle comparable to
the one back home will cost a lot less at Lakeside.
There are clubs and interest groups for all kinds of activities, such
as golf, bridge, photography, painting, writing, quilting, and charity
work just to name a few. One can participate in as many as desired
or none, just as one chooses. Laid back, remember?
If you're planning a trip down here, please contact me by e-mail (click
on the letter icon above) and I will give you information about bed
and breakfasts and hotels. If you would like to see properties, I
will be happy to show you around the area.
With the advantage of the Multiple Listing Service here in Lakeside,
I can show you "behind the walls" to any home that is listed by any
other agent or agency. I can get you an answer to any questions you
might have about moving down to Mexico.
I love it! I think you will, too.
